From Deb's Basket Table....

It's summer! Let the fun begin! Many of us enjoy a lighter schedule than during the school year. Trips to the beach or pool, bike rides, early morning walks and family vacations become an important part and wonderful memory of this time of year. Weaving outside is a joy after being inside all winter and sometimes a necessity as we get ready for those summer art and craft shows. I exhibited my baskets at shows for years and although the money was nice, the best part was sharing the art of basketry and having people appreciate my work. Good luck to all of you heading to shows this summer!

Usually the summer issue is full of Christmas patterns, but this year I have chosen to feature Fall baskets. Perhaps you can incorporate some of these into your fall show and class schedules.

Susan Reed-Fanfoni's "Mrs. Scarecrow" is a darling fall scarecrow that will weave its way into every country heart and home. In Susan's signature style, she has woven a scarecrow body and added just the right extras to complete the look.

"The Great Pumpkin" is a large fall bushel basket with a wooden base. Woven in fall colors, it features an add-on wooden pumpkin and fall leaves stencil. Thanks to Maurine Joy for this beautiful pattern.

Eva Snyder and Julie Kleinrath have contributed two fall patterns that they tell me are best sellers. The "Apple Box" and "Falling Leaves" feature pottery add on pieces tied on with raffia. It's a great fall look that your customers and weaving students will love.

Have a great summer!
