Spring 1998 "Just Patterns"

Aren't teenagers ftm? As I write this there are 13 thirteen year-old girls in my house for my daughter's birthday. What was I thinking? I know it will be a long night, and since I am not welcome at the slumber party, I thought I would make good use of my time - at least I can hear everything from my computer!

The "Copper Trim Basket" is just the right size for paper napkins and would add a festive touch at parties or the holidays. I have had a lot of fun working with the copper foil - it weaves easily with the paper backing on it, and you can remove just the tip of the backing to reveal the adhesive and secure the ends - if only you could do that with reed!

Gail Marlowe does such beautiful work and her small "Top Cat" is a beauty with its classic shape and design. She has kits available for making this basket from black ash - what a treasure!

Sandy Atkinson's "Antique Storage Box" is so cute and very easy. It would make a great class and would also be a big hit as a house warming present or at bridal showers.

My "Flying Twill Tray" is an easy twill basket woven completely in an Over 2/Under 2 pattern. The key to twill weaving is starting each row in the correct place to continue the twill pattern. With 02/U2, you stagger each row by one spoke to the right. To create the Flying Twill Tray, a few dyed rows will be staggered to the left. Mine is woven with black accents, but it would be striking in any colors.

Have a great spring!

Deb
